At the begining of the 3rd Pass, the dragons of Pern came down with a sickness that threatened to wipe out the entire breed. Dragons died, people panicked. They sought frantically for the cure that would save not only the dragons of Pern from genocide, but themselves from being powerless to stop Threadfall. An original Colonist, Wind Blossom, and a Gold Rider from the 3rd Pass developed and administered a cure for the illness, saving the great dragons and Pern from distruction! This amazing feat was only acheived by Loranna's unique ability to follow the dragons between with her mind and her amazing bond strected through generations with WindBlossom, and genetic maipulation. The Third Pass was suddenly faced with the task of learning all about genetics in a matter of days to save the species they loved.
What are the chances they made a mistake?
Only one Pass later, nearly three hundred Turns after Loranna and Wing Blossom 'saved' dragon kind, the genetic manipulation administered by those coragous healers and Loranna Turns ago has caused some unexplained...side effects. Things began to change, only slightly at first, in the colours of the Great dragons. People didn't notice, why should they have? For Turns the colour change was gradual: Bronzes grew duller, their metallic sheen loosing it's luster. Golds turned darker, more brassy as each generation of dragons passed. Everytime one did so, people claimed that it was just bad breeding, that they should open their Queen's flights to other Weyrs. Even the lower colours changed subtly.
There is only three Turns before Thread is due to fall once more over Pern's fertile lands, and two new dragons have hatched. Unique, never seen before colour have emerged from seemingly no where, the final build up of the genetic manipulation caused by Loranna and Wind Blossom themselves. Both are clutching females, and noth are larger then a single Gold has ever been. The large beauties the beginning of change for the dragonriders of Pern.
Most of the Weyrs of Pern are all intact and in good order, with strong leadership, despite the sudden news of the two new colours, with at least 3 Queens apeice. Telgar however, has not been so lucky. There is only one Queen dragon left, staying only long enough to see her last clutch be impressed. There is what looks to be a queen egg on the sands, but it is much smaller than usual.
The other weyrs, seeing the situation of Telgar, held a conference were it was decided that the two new Clutchers, from Benden and Ista, would go to Telgar to help re-populate. But what surprises will these new Queens bring to unsuspecting Telgar?
Right now, there is a clutch on the Sands. The oldest Golden Dragon on Pern laid her last clutch three sevendays ago and they are due to hatch any day now! The hatch is of average size, with 22 eggs. And there are bound to be a few surprises!
