Half Moon Weyr!
Where the dragons and riders reach for the sky!
Half Moon Weyr is a small Weyr that was made under the moon and dedicated to the birth of a rare dragon. The Riders are all kind and are willing to welcome anyone into their Weyr. If you are wanting to join a small Weyr with plenty of opportunities, then you belong at Half Moon Weyr!
Let us go back in time to when the 9th Pass was real, and Lessa Impressed Gold Ramoth to become Benden Weyr`s next Sr. Weyrwoman. But, the 9th Pass was very different. There was no AIVIS or the discovery of the three space ships. In fact, because AIVIS was left behind during the First Pass that Turns of weather and other elemental forces caused the ground around AIVIS to solidify and be burried under several layers of dirt.
Lessa did travel back in time to bring all the Weyrs forward in time to save Pern. But, because of how far back she travelled, this triggered a genetic mutation in Ramoth. From this mutation came the first and famous White dragon, Ruth. He was no albino, as his hide contained very faint patches of all the normal dragon colors. Ruth's egg would not have hatched if Jaxom had not forced it open and released the dragonet from a thick membrane sac; thus, it seems likely that White coloration in dragons was normally a lethal mutation.
But, several Turns after Ruth`s birth, more White dragons began to be born. Not only were Whites starting to hatch with less difficulty now, they could be either male or female and started to grow larger until they were the size of a small Blue. Also, the mutation caused the newly hatched Browns, Bronzes, and Golds to grow several more feet than they were supposed to.
Because of how small Whites were, they were treated as fighting dragons like Greens and Blues. And because they were starting to become more common, they were forced to chew Firestone, never given the chance see what they could clutch. That was until the day that a young woman defied her Weyr`s laws.
Her name was Tricia, the daughter of a prominent Weyrwoman. When she was 17, she stood on the stands and Impressed to beautiful White named Berylth. Berylth grew to be the size of an average White, standing just a little taller than a tall Green. When Berylth Rose during her 2 Turn, she and her Rider surprised Pern when Berylth clutched.
Tricia had defied her Weyr laws and refused to give her White any firestone. She wanted to see what her precious dragon could clutch. It was a small clutch of only 7 eggs. The first egg Hatched, revealing a little Green. People started to think that all a White could clutch was Greens, whites, and Blue. Then the next set of eggs Hatched, revealing new and old colors.
From the clutch came two Blacks, a male and female, a Yellow, and a Purple. People were shocked by the colors that had come out. The dragons even reached their destined sizes once they fully grew. Several Turns later, Berylth clutched a second time hatching several more Blacks and another Purple.
Both Purples were, at first, thought to be new Queens and were allowed to clutch during their first clutches. From the clutches came two Bronzes, another Purple, and another set of colors: Apocalite, Lapis, and several more. Shortly after, Purples were discovered to be fighting dragons like Browns. And so, every color except Golds was forced to chew firestone.
The Bronzes that had been born from the Purples grew up and became Weyrleaders. Unknowing that these Bronzes, different from past Bronzes and carried the genes for the new colors, caught the Golds of their Weyr. When the first Platinum Queen was born, everyone was in shock that another Queen could exist. Also the discovery of three other dragons that ranked Bronzes caused a commotion. When Moonstreaks, Ceruleans, and Brass dragons emerged and grew to the sizes of Bronzes, everyone knew that times were changing.
Platinums would not be the only Queens after that. A Sienna emerged onto the Sands as well, taking her place beside the Queens as well. And with these future Queens, Gold and all, they carried the new genes of colors. In fact, other Queen colors were discovered, but they were a different mutation. After an incident, whenever these rare Queen colors are born, they are usually killed while either still in their egg or when they hatched. Very rarely are they allowed to live because of the deeds they have done.
Today, every dragon that lives in the 10th Pass carries the genes of these new colors. And like every dragon before them, they still fight to protect Pern of the Thread menace. And what of the missing Queen colors? Rumor has it that they still exist. And what had they done to cause Golds, Platinums, and Siennas to stop clutching them?
Our current Sr. Weyrwoman is Kris, Rider of Gold Lioleth. Her weyrmate, Sr. Weyrleader R`lek, Rider of Bronze Borath, has just helped taken the reigns of the Weyr. And to add more excitement, a whole new assortment of colors have just Hatched onto the Sands.
Do you have what is takes to reach the sky?
