Appearance:
Peine looks delicious, which with him is defined as a charisma that is neither masculine nor feminine. As hard as he tries to fill the stereotypical 'tough-guy' look, he is just much too short for him to ever be menacing. In fact, it's not uncommon for him to be mistaken for a well-built Weyrbrat, though he does work out quite often to try and offset his size. Now he has a set of muscles that any rider would br proud of, and he himself takes every opportunity to show it off.
This daily regiment has also earned him an almond-brown tan that matches his curly almond-brown hair nicely. In this sea of almond-brown lays his dark chocolate eyes that are a little bit bigger than most. His nose is slightly pudgy, with a subtle upwards slant, and dashed with hazel freckles that are almost overpowered by his tan. His mouth is also wide to fit into his toppled oval head nicely, and can stretched to show a ear-to-ear grin beaming with bliss or shrink to a finger-tip for a sour pucker. Overall, his face is very expressive, a trait that adds to his natural, asexual charm.
As for his usual wear, it's nothing fancy. Typically Peine can be found wearing a worn pair of hand-me-down rider trousers accompanied by a plain white shirt, usually purposely unbuttoned on each end in the front. Sometimes, when he feels like it, he'll wear clothing with gold or red accents or a stray piece of cheap jewelry to bring out his brown hues. But, then he often feels homosexual, and usually changes back. As for formal-wear, black and white is the way to go.
Personality:
If one thing is true, Peine likes to get in other's business. It's still not certain if it's because he's a busy-body, if he just likes people, or a combination of the three, especially to him. He enjoys politics and conversations, though, and can read people quite well. But his quirk is that he loves to be sneaky. Breaking curfew and sneaking around tunnels during the night is one of his favorite pastimes, aside from eavesdropping.
Peine also is selfish. He's rather swipe food for his well-fed self than a person in need. He doesn't care about creating or breaking relationships, as long as he currently has some at the moment, otherwise he would be bored (It is also likely that this is the true reason he likes people: entertainment). Peine would make a horrible Healer, since he doesn't share other people's pain, or emotions for that matter, very well. His temper is a very hard thing to dig up due to his emotional detachment, but if someone manages to hit him where it hurts, like commenting on his lack of morals or, he will never loose the grudge. Never.
However, his sense of humor is humongous. Peine will take any chance he gets to crack a joke, even if it is at another's expense. Surprisingly, Piene's ego isn't as nearly as big as he leads some people to believe. In fact, he's somewhat self-conscious about his appearance, hence his constant effort to keep his body in good shape. Rather, he builds a shell of egotism to protect the more fragile aspects of himself. He's actually not homophobic at all, interestingly. Plus, Piene can see things in long term, but usually chooses not to for the sake of instantaneous results, even if it will end up biting him in the backside later. This applies especially to sexuality, since he likes his women beautiful and cheap. Delicious.
Background:
As far as Histories go, Pienal's was rather average. In fact, his family could easily be the Pern equivalent of the Brady Bunch. They were large, bubbly, and, though they had their occasional disputes, peaceful. By the time Pienal entered the picture, he already had two olders brothers and an older sister. And following him shortly after came another brother and two sisters. At age 5, the boy was already immersed in the perfect Hold family and hating it.
It wasn't that Pienal was overly-ambitious. It's hard to imagine ranks in society at such a young age, after all. The real reason that Pienal hated his life was because it was too perfect. There was no challenge, no fame, no drama, no goals. Just pointless apprentice work and bubbly, cheerful faces. Most importantly, he never had time to himself. And the bigger the boy grew, the more he added to his list of things to hate. He was constantly getting worn hand-me-downs for cloths and smaller portions at dinner. His sleeping room was crowded with three rambunctious boys, which equates to six quiet ones. He had nothing of his own, since everything was shared. It was enough to drive him insane. Slowly he grew into a withdrawn, crabby boy of ten. It wasn't until he met Korgal that he regained sanity.
Korgal was a Vinter apprentice one turn older than Pienal, but the boys looked so much a like they were mistaken for twins. Their personalities were different, though, since Korgal was the kind, outgoing one while Pienal was the antisocial, selfish one. But together they worked fantastically to equal each others personalities, and slowly but surely the boy learned his sense of humor. In fact, it was because of Korgal that Pienal decided to become a Vinter, though he had no love for the craft other than getting drunk.
Sadly, though, as Korgal's kindness helped Pienal, Pienal's selfishness slowly corrupted Korgal. Finally, at around age sixteen, the boy was caught stealing bubblie pies from a vender at a Gather. Korgal apologized vehemently and paid twice the price after being caught, a testament to his good will. But Pienal was desperate, not stupid. He knew that he was the cause of Korgal's poisoning, no matter how much his friend denied it, and broke off the friendship. He didn't want to hurt the one thing that didn't drive him insane. Instead, the boy sulked around in his room for most of his free time afterwords.
A searchrider came to the Hold one day, perhaps two months afterwords, looking for Candidates. While being dragged out of his cot by force by his family, the dragon sniffed Pienal and Pille out of the pack. Though Pille politely declined the offer since he was almost 19 and already courting a lovely lady, the chance to break away and start a new life was exactly what Pienal was looking for. He accepted immediately and was whisked away to the Weyr, eager for new beginnings.
