u]Person[/u][/b]
Name: R'van
Gender:Male
Age:29
Sexuality:Heterosexual
Rank:bronzerider
Family: Mother: Taria(deceased); Gisele, Darin(grandparents, deceased, cotholders, Benden Hold)
Appearance: Tall, and muscular, his olive skin tanned darkly from sun, with short-cropped reddish-brown hair and piercing blue eyes. He has a ready smile, and a nose left slightly crooked from being broken. A tattoo of a lunging black feline is etched on his left shoulderblade. The pattern partially(but not entirely) conceals scars running down from the back of his neck to the base of his spine.
Personality: R'van is of the belief that to lead, one must be willing to go ahead before those being asked to follow. He asks nothing of anyone that he won't do himself. He is a stern but fair man, one that has few close ties(and none that ever will equal his link with Kemath), yet when anyone does become friend, or beloved, that is a bond only death will sever.
Strong-willed, quick to explore new situations, perceptive, and utterly committed to the Weyr. Capable of being manipulative or ruthless, if it serves their best interests. He has no qualms about making tough choices. He has an innate gift for strategy, and tactics, using any weapons within reach.
History: Rovan was born to a young Holder girl, named Taria. She was unmarried, at the time her pregnancy was discovered. She adamantly refused to tell anyone, even her parents, the name of her child's father. Since she had been serving as a cook in their Lord Holder's own hold at the time, there were some unkind rumors about what, exactly, she had been "serving him."
She wasn't dismissed from her position, despite the gossip. Rovan was born a healthy and loud-voiced babe. His mother, however, wasn't so fortunate. She died only a few hours after her son's birth.
Her parents did their best to raise their grandson. They managed to eke out a living for all three of them, despite age limiting what work they could do. The family never went hungry, but no one would have called them well-off. It wasn't easy, particularly when Rovan came of age to ask where his birth parents were. At times, he was bitterly envious of his peers for having what he could only imagine; loving parents, security, prospects of a better future...
As an adolescent, he became moody, rebellious, wanting to escape a home that felt more like a cage with every Turn. His temper resulted in fights with other boys. He gained a reputation as a brawler, not someone to cross.
His Lord Holder's captain of the guard took an interest in the boy. He might have recognized something of a like spirit in the young upstart. He taught Rovan barehanded and knife-fighting, as well as the sword. They also discussed strategy, history, other subjects that caught the boy's interest.
The lessons taught him discipline, as well, to channel his temper.
The guard captain was considering offering him a place in the Guard, in Rovan's fifteenth Turn. This plan was scrapped when an unexpected visitor showed up. It was a Search rider, looking for candidates for Benden Weyr. His dragon was rather adamant that Rovan should return with them. At his family's and mentor's urgings, he accepted being Searched.
At that first Hatching, bronze Kemath cracked his shell and made a beeline for Rovan, now R'van.
The Impression was one of the best moments of R'van's life, and a gift he is yet grateful to have received. Never alone again, he and Kemath thrived in Weyrling training. They were a true team,
and Weyr life suited him in a way that the Holds never had. His family were delighted at watching their last child become a dragonrider.
Over time, he served as both a Wingleader and, for a few turns, Weyrlingmaster. When his grandparents passed away of old age, his last ties to the Holder boy he'd been were also gone. .
He never thought to leave, but the news of a new Weyr being founded in the South proved an irresistible challenge to both himself and Kemath.
Dragon
Name:Kemath
Color:Bronze
Age: 14
Appearance: Kemath is powerfully built, deep-chested, and swift. His hide is a light shade of bronze with brown undertones, and darker patches along his neck ridges and wings.
Personality: Kemath is, like his rider, intelligent and restless. He loves a challenge. The competitive streak's most noticeable when other bronzes are around. He can be playful, but that's a side humans, or the other dragon colors, are more likely to see. He's also a flirt, towards both greens and golds, equally, though he takes rejection in stride.
