Person[/b]
Name Danathi
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Sexuality: Homosexual
Rank: Bluerider
Family:
Danill(father, holder); Amina, (mother); Jeren, Talmir, Davin(brothers), Rania and Stasi(sisters)
Appearance: You wouldn't likely notice Danathi until she spoke. She's average height, not fat but not skinny, curvy in all the right places, with ash blonde hair that's darkening to brown as she gets older, and light blue eyes set in an oval-shaped face. Frankly, she looks like a strong wind would break her in two, but appearances are deceiving. Her voice is the most attention-getting trait she has, warm and melodic, pitched low but always pleasant to hear. She always dresses well, even
when on the job, she insists on clean riding leathers to start the day. Her preferred style is bright dresses over shirts and trousers, though she's practical enough to wear those when necessary.
Personality:Danathi doesn't wait for life to turn out the way she wants. She's more likely to chase life down and pounce on it, catching whatever joys or opportunities she spots. Spontaneous, and with an attitude of "seizing the day." She lives her life meaning to be able, when she looks back, to (possibly) regret "some-- a few! Maybe!" of the things she's done, not "all of the things I didn't."
She loves the spotlight, and is a bit of a showoff, unrepentantly so. This is mitigated by the fact that she hasn't a jealous bone in her body. Friends know her as the sort to ask, if they want to play a joke on someone, or throw a party. She can be serious, as energetic in her performance of her duties as in enjoying herself, but rarely somber or angry. Stress rolls off her like water off a bird's back. This can sometimes be interpreted as lack of caring, but that's not the case.
She is, also unrepentantly, a flirt, and a 'lover of women'. She makes no apologies about that, to anyone. Holders or Crafters who are more sheltered/traditional, or even riders, may find her openness a bit startling at first. But this is one area in which Danathi's not so easygoing. She has a tougher streak under the surface; she won't ever apologize for being who she is, or let anyone make her or her friends ashamed of that.
History: Danathi was born in Benden Hold, a cousin to the Lord Holder's family. She grew up in Benden, with her parents, and several brothers and sisters. Her mother, the Hold's Weaver, was the parent that Danathi was the closest to. Her childhood was a happy one, with little in the way of tragedy, and never lonely.
A couple of her closest childhood friends were Hold boys. As Danathi grew older, her parents gave some thought to the possibility that one of them might make a good husband for her. They weren't so high in rank as some family members, but her father had managed his lands well, and they were prosperous if not rich.
Danathi, while appreciating her mother's Craft, wasn't drawn to follow in Amina's footsteps. She found the idea of being a holder someday as attractive as any other possible future.
Then, when she was fourteen Turns old, they were invited to accompany her cousin, their Lord Holder, to a Hatching at Benden. One of his younger sons had been Searched for that same clutch. Danathi had always loved dragons, so she agreed. Indeed, her parents would have been hard pressed to keep her from going with them.
They waited, as the Hatching began, and the dragonets broke their shells. Danathi cheered as a little brown made an unerring path to the Holder's son. It almost prevented her from seeing that a blue hatchling, instead of paying any attention whatsoever to the Candidates, was making a beeline for the stands...and her.
The hatchling stopped and looked up. At her. My name is Silth, Danathi. What took you so long?
Danathi was stunned, but then ecstatic.
Her father's reactions caught her completely off-guard. She started to exit the stands, to go to her dragon, and he grabbed her arm, nearly hard enough to break bone. She stared at him, seeing anger and, yes, disgust, on his face.
Hurt, but determined, she pulled free and ran to Silth.
The older riders blocked him from chasing her onto the Sands. They also comforted her when her family left without her, angry, and treating her as if she'd turned into a monster.
One of the other blue riders explained, very gently, why Holders sometimes reacted that way to a girl who Impressed a fighting dragon, particularly blue or, rarely, brown.
Numbweed eased the bruises on her arm, and they faded quickly. But things were never the same between her and her parents, after that day. Her father apologized, after Danathi's mother and several of their other relatives harshly made it clear to him that, if he insisted on forcing them to choose between her and him, it would be his loss.
She rarely went back there. The Weyr was her home now. Still, the separation didn't mean loneliness. She had Silth, and new friends among the weyrlings. She refused to regret being Impressed, or loving the dragon who'd chosen her. She passed through Weyrling training with little difficulty. Silth, later in the Turns, showed signs of being a Search dragon.
They chose to join the group relocating South, when the new Weyr began to be built.
Dragon
Name: Silth
Color:Blue
Age: 5 turns
Appearance: Silth is a large blue, as big as some of the smaller browns. His hide is a light turquoise blue, paling almost to white along his neck ridges and head. He's muscular, and has unusual stamina for a blue.
Personality: Silth is the trickster of his clutch. He loves to make people laugh, whether they're human or draconic. Frequently, he'll enlist his rider to help him sneak up on his "target"; an adult dragon has to give up on being stealthy. When caught, he can manage to sound completely innocent. Why does everyone think it's him? He's sociable, and loves to chat, particularly with younger dragons or humans. Shyness won't deter him, though if someone seems afraid, he'll back off.
